Keeping Me in Check

Grace is a generous little gift giver.  Last night, when we got back from Jane's Kindergarten Open House, she handed me this rock.  The tricky little girl! She had started painting her new set of "Word Rocks" after school yesterday, and when she finished this giant orange rock she told me that she just wanted to keep it for herself and she'd sell the rest at her 3rd Grade Sale next week.  Little did I know that she was really planning on making me a Mother's Day surprise instead.

I love it when I get a kid surprise like that!  Just to take me back to planet Earth, though, I had some salty thrown in with the sweet today via son number one. You know -- in case my head was starting to get too big with thinking that I'm doing such a good job as a mom -- I had Ethan keeping me in check after school by informing me that I am "so mean" and asking/yelling why can't I just "be nice for once!" when I told him that NO, he COULDN'T make no bakes for an after school snack.  Oh well. You win some, you lose some.  Ironically, when I asked him after dinner if he even knew what was happening this Sunday, he angrily told me that he already has A LOT of surprises planned for Mother's Day. Hahaha. Can't wait to find out what those are!

I've been a little under the weather for the last couple of days, so I'm simply hoping to feel WELL for my big day.  The key to enjoying this guilt-inducing holiday, for me, is to have zero expectations.  Then that way I can only be pleasantly surprised if anything nice happens!  Haha.  And on that note, I need to sign off and go to sleep.  Goodnight and sweet dreams.  :)

{Newest batch of "word rocks" -- just waiting on the words.  And the mod podge.}

Oh goodness. Jill is just starting to get old enough to say that I am mean or unfair. It has happened twice I think. Sigh. The next stage of kids is coming . . .
