Faith is Like a Little Seed

This month we are right back around to focusing on Faith -- the principle we started off with last April, from the "The Family: A Proclamation to the World."  I wanted to try and do something new this time around to help the kids internalize the principle, so for Family Home Evening tonight, I decided to use the comparison of faith being like a seed.  Because as we all know, if planted, it will grow.  :)

After talking to the kids about what needs to happen for an actual seed to grow (good soil, sun, water, etc.), we talked about how we can plant the seed of faith in our hearts and help IT to grow as well.  It's always nice when you can see that the "Sunday School" answers are sinking in.  Haha.  The older kids were quick to answer that we need to nourish our faith with things such as reading our scriptures, praying, going to church, and keeping the commandments.   To go along with the lesson, I had gone to The Home Depot earlier in the day and picked up a clay pot for everyone, along with a variety of flower seeds.  It was such a GORGEOUS day today, so it made it extra fitting to be outside planting the promise of flowers in the future.  Of course, it wasn't smooth sailing -- it never is -- and there were plenty of {loud} fights over who wanted what seeds and whose turn it was to have the sharpie to write their names on the pots, but overall, I think everyone enjoyed the activity.

Also up for enjoyment?  The special FHE treat I put together to complement our lesson.  Dirt cups.  I tried to fancy it up with choices -- vanilla pudding or chocolate pudding, regular Oreos or mint Oreos, gummy worms or sour neon worms -- and I think it really hit the spot.  :)  Of course, Sophie couldn't have the pudding, and Alex only wanted the gummy worms, but other than that the treat in its entirety was a hit!  Although, just as an FYI -- mint Oreos = REALLY good; sour neon worms = REALLY good; but mint Oreos + sour neon worms = SUPER, super gross.  Hahahaha.

SCRIPTURE TIME for March

{Scripture} And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.  -- Alma 32:21

Lead, kindly Light, amid th'encircling gloom;
Lead thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home;
Lead thou me on!
Keep thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene--one step enough for me.
