Snowy Days

We've had quite a weekend!  Not only did we get to enjoy our regular break on Saturday and Sunday, but President's Day gave us the day off from school and work yesterday, and a snow storm has given us today off as well.

Since it was a holiday yesterday -- and we're trying to amp up our wholesome recreational activities this month -- we decided to head on out in the sketchy, snowy weather to an indoor recreation outlet kind of place.  The kids LOVED it.  So, I'm glad we went for their sakes.  But as for myself, let's just say that places like this make me antsy and bored out of my mind because there's NOTHING for me to do.  Being there for two hours totally maxed me out.  The one saving grace of the outing was a tire swing that I convinced Jane to swing on with me.  Because I do love me a good tire swing.  Haha.

Once we convinced the kids it was really time to go, we drove thru a Wendy's on the way home for a mid-afternoon meal, and then spent the rest of the day lounging around.  I worked some more on Sophie's quilt while watching the newest Disney Original Movie with some of the kids, and then after dinner, we got everyone off to bed at a fairly normal hour.  Which was quite a feat considering the older ones had caught wind of the fact that school was already cancelled for today.

As FOR today, our first official snow day of the season has been a rather low-key affair, with the bulk of the morning spent watching TV.  I managed to get everyone up to their rooms for quiet reading time after lunch, but they've finished that up and are now attempting to play in the frigid cold outside.  Technically the kids all have school work they're supposed to do today, but Ethan is the only one who has shown any initiative so far.  Unfortunately for my poor little first-born, his attempt to complete his math/science assignment was a bit of a flop.  But at least it provided a valuable life lesson.  Never again will he confuse a teaspoon with a Tablespoon.  Hahahaha.  For his assignment, he was supposed to take a recipe and either half it or double it.  He decided to half the recipe for some Swig sugar cookies and instead of using 1/2 tsp. of salt, baking soda, and cream of tartar, he ended up putting in 1/2 TBS.  Which is a HUGE difference.  By halving the original recipe amounts for everything else, and then actually DOUBLING the original amounts of those three things, he managed to produce a batch of inedible cookies.  With frosting that had the same problem!  Oh well -- it's probably for the best that there aren't a couple dozen cookies lying around the house.  We are all in need of a major sugar detox after this weekend!  Hahaha.

Mixing up the frosting before realizing the huge mistake.  Sophie was the only one willing to help  Which is ironic because she was allergic to half the ingredients being mixed up.

Apparently this is what cookies look like when they have quadruple the amounts of salt, baking soda, and cream of tartar added to them.  Hahaha.

The rest of the day is left to unfold here, but I'm REALLY hoping that school will be in session for tomorrow.  Being snowbound at home is not my jam!  Hahahaha.

wish we had one of those indoor playplaces. looks much cleaner and better than chuck e cheese, mcdonalds, etc. Looks like the kids had a blast.

Oh I am a little sad for you since those Swig cookies are awesome!! I live way to close to a Swig here. I actually enjoy those kid places when all the kids are contained. ;)
