Behold the evolution of a summer vacation day via text message...
9:16 AM --
Scott: How are things going back there?
Me: Pretty good actually. We did breakfast and scripture time and set out a rough summer schedule. As a result, everyone pitched in for our morning tidy up and now they're watching tv while I'm at the church with Jane and Sophie. America's funniest home videos continue to hold their interest back home.
Scott: Oh good.
2:22 PM --
Me: I'm feeling stressed and overloaded. The house is a mess, I didn't get to Costco because our target trip to pick out the art bucket stuff took so long, and I don't have anything to make for dinner. Plus we need to do the recital tonight and FHE somehow and I told Rachel I could run with her at 8. Should we go out to eat for the first night of summer? Like a cheap and easy kind of place?
Scott: Yeah, let's eat out. FHE will be on the drive to recital.
4:22 PM --
Scott: How goes it?
Me: They are driving me nuts. I'm trying to get them to do their chores right now. There's a lot of running around and screaming going on, but not a whole lot of cleaning. Ethan and Grace are out of control.
Scott: Why? What's going on? Fighting?
Me: Bugging each other.
Scott: Ugh
Me: Fighting. Not listening.
Scott: Lovely
Me: Hurting each other.
Scott: Yikes
Me: Screaming matches. They need to go to bed.
And there you have it! Day one of summer vacation. It started out so much more promising than I thought it would, but ended up in the exact place I was excepting it to. Oh well! Tomorrow is always another day, right?? Haha.
Jane's ballet recital was the highlight of the evening and she looked absolutely adorable with her friends up on the stage. Once we were home, Scott took over for me in the child care department and I was able to get out of the house and go for a nice 4 mile run with a friend. All's well that ends well. Now I just need to figure out some better tactics for managing an entire summer with all five children. I also need to figure out a way to get the entire house deep cleaned and the last of the rooms painted before Wednesday night when I'm hosting a Book Club that I just started. It probably isn't possible, but if there's a way to do it, I will get it done! Stay tuned for my progress. :)
