On Sunday afternoon, I managed to convince the kids that we
should watch The Sound of Music. Since it's my favorite show of all
time, and I haven't watched it in awhile, I thought it was high time to
dust it off and re-introduce it to the next generation. Haha. Everyone
but Grace was pretty into it, and I'm pretty sure I impressed all of them with my verbatim memorization of the songs and a LOT
of the dialogue. Hahaha.
Meanwhile
today I was impressed that everyone was up and ready in record time for making it to the bus. Of course, it's mostly because Alex was through the roof excited for his very first field
trip. And since he's an afternoon kindergarten goer normally, it was
that much more exciting to be able to ride the bus in the morning with
the big kids to get to school on time for the trip to the Farm. He
really wanted me to walk with him down to the bus stop, which forced
Isaac along for the ride (or walk as the case may be -- NOT that he was
complaining), and once we were there, I snapped a few obligatory photos and even
convinced them to act out the infamous "So Long, Farewell" scene from
the movie where they all pop out to say cuckoo. Hahahahaha. It was
hilarious. And I think they all loved it. {
I'm still trying to convince them we should do the full song for the Talent Show next year.}
"Popping out to say cuckoo!"
"Cuckoo!"
"Cuckoo!"
Once the kids were off on the bus, it was just me and Shoo Shoo for the day! I had grand plans of being all kinds of productive with only one kid at home, but it didn't quite work out the way I envisioned. I made it to the gym, and then to a couple of stores to try and find a graduation dress for Grace, but once I got home and put the baby down for his nap, I quickly got swept away into a current of laziness and didn't get a single thing done around the house. Whoopsie! Hopefully by the time next school year rolls around -- when everyone but Isaac will be in school all day EVERY day -- I will have figured out how to manage my time a little more wisely. ;)
Ready for the bus! And his very first field trip!
{Many thanks to my sweet neighbor who chaperoned the field trip with her little boy and sent me several pictures of their day. :) }
POST SCRIPT QUESTION -- do people not watch The Sound of Music anymore???? When Grace's friend got to the bus stop this morning, she had no idea what we were talking about with our cuckoo scene. She said she's NEVER seen the movie, and she didn't even recognize a couple of the most popular songs, like "Do, Re, Mi" or "So Long, Farewell." It's a tragedy I tell you!! Much to Grace's embarrassment, I told her friend that she needed to come over to our house for our next family movie night and she could watch it with us. Hahahaha.

Amy and I went to a morning viewing of it st the Prytania Theatre last year. It's even better in the big screen!
We watch it on the regular! Because it's the best movie ever. Along with Fiddler on the Roof. Keep it alive, I say!
It should be required viewing! It's historical. It's musical. It's beautiful. So much to discuss about it.
I was in high school when I realized that gay-org is George.
