The Other Shoe Has Dropped

Just last night, I was commenting to Scott that the kids have been remarkably well-behaved and cooperative since we've gotten back from the cousin's house this weekend.   They have seriously been the best version of themselves for the last couple of days, and I've been LOVING it.  We're talking no big meltdowns at bedtime, chores being kind of done {with Sophie even clearing the dinner table last night after I left to bring Ethan and Grace to scouts and Activity Days, and then cleaning the entire kitchen and family room as a surprise for Scott when he came down after putting the little ones to bed}, and most importantly, no blood has been shed!  Hahaha.

This morning, however, it all came crashing down.  Here is how MY morning started off...

{via text exchange}

SCOTT: I'm running two back to back appointments.  Are you ok?

ME: Ish

ME: But whatevs

ME: Ethan's packing nothing of substance for his lunch

ME: Sophie won't change her shorts

ME: Grace is feeling sick

ME: Alex threw a 20 minute fit about me stirring his oatmeal

ME: And Jane is still asleep

SCOTT: Wow.  The hits keep coming.

ME: And I've got to leave for my hair appointment in thirty minutes

SCOTT:  Yikes

{And then just a few minutes later...}

SCOTT: Did they make the bus?  Or Grace refusing?

ME: They made it.  Minus Grace.

SCOTT: Darn it

ME: Sophie had a last minute change of mind with her crazy hair and had me pull out all the braids I spent time doing while she ate breakfast this morning that I could have used to get other stuff done.

Aaaaahhhhh!  And there you have it -- a frantic and frazzled morning, that thankfully gave way to a much more pleasant mood by the end of the day.  :)

Highlights of the day included Grace creating a crazy hairstyle for Jane to wear to school (it's Spirit Week, in case you were wondering) and then creating a brand-new, from scratch "Ugly Doll" {which is what they've been working on in Activity Days as a service project} to donate to the local children's hospital.  Quite the productive day for one who was so sick.  Don't you think??  Hahahaha.  Oh Grace.  In her defense, she really didn't seem well this morning and she did end up falling back asleep on the couch for a bit after eating breakfast, so it wasn't a total fake out.  I know that she was really looking forward to Crazy Hair Day herself, so she had to have been feeling something.  By the end of the day, though, she was back to her normal self and readily accepted my pronouncement that she is going to school tomorrow no matter what.  :)

 That's a cup up there on top of her head, underneath her hair.

{Grace wanted to replicate the hairstyle for herself when Jane got home from school.}

And that is that!  I finished off the evening with a Relief Society activity at the church, where a friend of mine in the ward taught us some cake decorating skills and then we got to practice on our own little cupcake.  It was a lot of fun, even if mine did end up looking a little homemade.  Hahaha.  Oh well.  The day is over and it's time for me to go to sleep!  Until next time...

Oh!  And one more picture to add:
When I got home tonight and came into the computer room to blog, I discovered this brand-new, hand-drawn map on the bulletin board that Grace had created for her "classroom."  Her creative juices have really been flowing today!  Hahaha.  Oh Grace.  I just love her.

Love the map! I know some North Ohioans that will be happy/sad to not be near Lake Erie anymore. And Wisconsin is totally taking over the country! I have a theory that the most moody people are also the most creative. They seem to go together. I have to remind myself that when I often feel depressed and focus on the gifts that accompany emotionally sensitive people. Keep up the great parenting you guys have got going on!
