Who am I, indeed?? Last Friday and Saturday night, I did something completely out of character and comfort zone and drove to Louisville -- on my own -- to attend a VIP pre-party and live show for my favorite podcasters. I know, I know. It sounds a little crazy -- even to me! But it was actually a lot of fun and I'm really glad I went.
When I heard that
"The Popcast" with Knox and Jamie were putting on a summer tour and one of the locations would be close enough to get to, I was sold! And THEN, when I learned that their guest for this particular Live Show was Anne Bogel, from my other favorite podcast "What Should I Read Next," I was beyond sold. Hahaha. Like seriously. Those are pretty much the only two podcasts I listen to regularly. The added bonus was that the VIP pre-party was actually AT Anne Bogel's house! Can I just say I have a case of MAJOR library envy after seeing her shelves in her house???
Me and Anne! {She's so much taller in person than I was expecting.}
{Anne ends every episode of "What Should I Read Next" with this quote from Rainer Maria Rilke.}
As nerve-wracking as it was for a reserved {
read -- shy} and introvert-leaning person like myself to show up to an event like this on my own without really knowing ANYONE in person, it was also strangely exhilarating and I was proud of myself for doing something so far outside of my comfort zone. I ended up having several interesting conversations with the random people I met -- mostly about books, obvis -- and meeting
Anne Bogel in person was a treat. Knox and Jamie were just as entertaining and delightful in person as they are on air and I was one of the lucky few {
probably because I lingered one of the longest}, who managed to snag a picture at the pre-party with the two of them together.
I felt like I needed to put this disclaimer out there. Hahaha.
Jamie made the cake pops -- cake pops were her "day job" before The Popcast really took off.
Discussing their seminal reading experiences as children. The books they all had in common? The Baby-sitters Club, of course. Hahaha.
The connoisseurs of "delightful idiocy" -- Knox and Jamie!
It made for a couple of LONG evenings -- I drove back and forth each night -- but it was totally worth it! The live show on Saturday night was great and filled with funny inside jokes and references {
Little Debbie's on the seats for everyone, for instance} and a super awesome swag bag with "The Popcast" sunglasses and a reading journal from the Modern Mrs. Darcy {
aka Anne Bogel} herself. The only real bummer of the weekend was that Scott couldn't join me. Thanks to an unfortunate scheduling conflict -- Ethan was getting back from High Adventure on that Friday night and Grace got back from Girl's Camp on the Saturday night -- Scott took one for the team and stayed behind with the kids so that I could make my all dreams come true. Hahahaha. Next time The Popcast comes anywhere within driving distance, though, I'm going to make sure that Scott will be joining me in the audience! :)
Who am I???
I'm so glad I bought VIP pre-party tickets! Appparently the line to meet Knox and Jamie after the live show took two hours to get through!!
And those were the highlights of last weekend! Now, if only I can get Ethan and Grace to contribute to a blog post about their camp experience last week, I should be able to finish off June strong...
