Spring Break Day 4:
Today may have been the spring breaking point. Hahahaha. Seriously, though. WAY too much family togetherness. Roughly 90% of the day was caught up in fights, freakouts, and fits. And the other 10% was spent at Costco. Haha. Scott took the day off, and since Jane had a scheduled eye doctor appointment at 4:30, we all headed over to the giant box store. Which is where the title of this post comes into play:
malinger ma·lin·ger (mə-lĭng'gər)
v. ma·lin·gered , ma·lin·ger·ing , ma·lin·gers
To feign illness or other incapacity in order to avoid duty or work.

Only, Jane wasn't trying to avoid duty or work. She (and possibly with the kids' help) has convinced herself that she REALLY wants glasses. After coming home last Friday from school with a form from the school nurse saying she failed her vision screening at school, I was honestly surprised that we haven't had that happen with any of the kids yet. My eyes are pretty bad, Scott is technically supposed to wear glasses, and my mom is actually legally blind. So, really, I've kind of just been waiting for at least ONE of the kids to have vision problems as well.
So, we scheduled her appointment over the weekend, and since then, Jane has excitedly been talking about getting glasses to look like Quin from "Zoey 101." Unfortunately, her eye exam today didn't go so well. The doctor tried several different ways to try and get an accurate assessment, but in the end his verdict was "MALINGERING" and told us to come back in 6 months for a follow-up. I'm not sure how much of the problem was that Jane was purposely saying things wrong, or if she's so in her own world that she doesn't understand the directions people are giving her, or perhaps she legitimately couldn't read all the letters. {My guess is that it was a combination of all 3.} Nevertheless, she did NOT get the glasses she wanted {causing a bit of a mini-meltdown}, and we wasted a bunch of money on an exam that yielded no concrete results. A fitting ending, to a less than stellar day. Hahaha.
{"What letter is that?" "I don't know. I can't see anything." Hmmmm.}
Thank goodness school starts back up on Monday!!! :)
