Minor Life Hack

It may come as no surprise to many of you, but I do not enjoy cooking.  Pretty much at all.  Womp womp.  And since we've moved (over 6 months ago), I've been SUPER lazy about actually making homemade meals for dinner.  What started as necessity during the moving process -- eating out or getting quick and easy meal items on a regular basis (such as Lunchables, which for some reason my kids LOVE) -- quickly morphed into an everyday catch all of free spacing it for dinner.

Last week I finally decided that enough was enough and I just needed to get my act together and start planning a menu again.  But since coming up with menu ideas is half the aggravation for me, I decided that outsourcing it to the kids would be the most brilliant move ever.  Hahaha.  And it has been! {At least in the week since we've started doing it.}

After perusing Walmart last Monday, I found a weekly calendar whiteboard that looked perfect for my purposes, and once I was home, I went straight to the pantry door and hung that bad boy up.  It was hilarious to see how quickly each kid noticed this new edition to the kitchen when they got home from school and how excited everyone was to put in their two cents and write in their requests for dinner.  We're still in the honeymoon phase of this project, obviously, but I'm hoping these changes will bring about some permanent improvements to my approach to meal-making.  ;)  {And as a sidetone -- having a real, sit-down dinner almost every night with the whole family has been really, really nice.}

{Not exactly related -- but this was the best moment of the day!  After diner and family home evening, I walked by the library to see THIS scene -- Grace reading to Isaac while Sophie, Jane, and Alex played electronic Life on the floor.  Maybe those home-cooked/sit-down-as-a-family meals are influencing behavior for the better!  Hahaha.}
