THIS guy's the man!
Home of the Best Dad Ever!
To celebrate Scott's awesomeness this weekend, we did...about as much as we usually do. Wah wah. Seriously, people. One of these years we're really going to get our act together. But this was not the year. I had grand plans in all the weeks leading up to his big day, but in the end, everything fizzled out except for a quickly scrawled banner and a semi-cleaned house. But I did order him the best gift ever for the solitary present he opened on Sunday morning, so at least there's that. {Hamilton: The Revolution, a book about the hit musical that I like to tease Scott about being slightly obsessed with ever since he heard the first titular song. I also pre-ordered the "clean" soundtrack (available July 8th) as part of his Father's Day gift.}
{I *think* those X-ed out pictures on the bottom are supposed to mean "no zombies allowed," according to Alex, but I could be mis-remembering his explanation. EDIT: I just asked him and he says it means, "no vampires, no skeletons, no scarecrows." Hahaha.}
The rest of the day panned out pleasantly enough, with church in the afternoon, Ethan pounding out "The Imperial March" (from Star Wars) on the piano, and Grace manufacturing casts for almost all of the kids in the house to wear. You know, because she's our resident expert on fake injuries. Hahahahaha. Apparently, the fun started the night before with a green cast for Jane (which she slept in and I didn't see until Sunday morning), and continued with Grace attempting to make a red one for Alex (he bowed out at the last minute), and then a couple more for Sophie and herself. And yes, those two clowns wore them to church. And no, I didn't realize they hadn't taken them off until they were walking up to the stand with the other Primary children to sing for all the Dads in sacrament meeting. Hahaha. Those kids!
{The making of a paper towel and packing tape cast.}
{I think they were inspired by our neighbor's buckle fracture/REAL injury that will need an actual cast. Although, believe it or not, this is NOT Grace's first fake broken arm stint on a Father's Day.}
The day ended with Scott helping me to make his own Father's Day dinner (taco salad) and the kids eating most of the treats that Scott had picked up the night before to treat himself for his big day. So, yeah. We're kind of the worst. But at least Scott is the best -- he brings our stock WAY up. Hahahahaha. :)
Stay tuned for a part two continuation of texting with my pre-teens...

Well, sounds like a pretty spectacular day to me! You mentioned getting Scott that book based on a musical. Maybe you didn't think long enough, but you could have surprised him with the enchanting novel by Susan Minot, "Evening" which he dearly enjoyed in the heart-warming film... Harris was her only love!
And...Janes' hair looks green in that second picture...is it???
I love the thought of those girls singing at church with their fake casts on. That is hilarious.
