A little after 11 when I realized Scott was falling asleep on the couch I made him go on up to bed and insisted that I would take one for the team and stay with Jane for the night. I felt bad about not really getting him anything for Father's Day and figured the best present of all would be a full night's sleep, right? Right??? Hahahaha. After a bit he finally relented and went upstairs and promptly passed out. Poor little lamb was all tuckered out.
Not so tuckered out? My other little lamb. Jane was a bit of a mess. And {as a random side-note} she's completely addicted to the iPad. In her mind breathing treatments = playing on the iPad. It's one of the only things that will keep her from ripping the mask off and staying (sort of) still for the course of the treatment. Between the iPad and Netflix Jane was all set. It took another breathing treatment and a couple of episodes of Hannah Montana before Jane finally fell asleep around 2:30. And then woke up at 3:30 needing another treatment, and again at 5:30. By 6:45 when I heard Alex waking up I had already decided that Jane probably needed to go to the hospital and that I need at least another hour of sleep in order to function for the day. I fed Alex, woke up Scott, (wished him Happy Father's Day!), handed off the baby and went straight to my bed. Half an hour later Scott woke me up to say that he'd talked to the doctor and they thought it would be best to bring Jane in.
Off to the hospital for a Daddy-Daughter date! Hahahaha.
So much for the breakfast in bed the kids had planned for dad! {Although, I think Sophie was more upset that the bacon never got made than Scott was.} Once Scott left with Jane I managed to scrape myself together and get everyone ready for church.
Entertaining Interlude #1:
Yesterday morning after I woke up from my brief cat nap in my own bed, I came downstairs to hear Grace crying and freaking out that Ethan and stepped on her arm (hand?) and broke it. I obviously didn't pay much attention to her cries OR her dash to the "sewing" room (aka Dining Room) where she started cutting pieces of yarn. I was just getting out of the shower when she came running up the stairs to have me sign her "cast" that she had fashioned out of paper towels and tape and was held in place by a yarn sling. I obliged her with my signature and also signed for Alex and Jane before she tore off looking for Sophie and Ethan to sign it as well. I had to get a picture, of course, to show Scott and I have to say that it made me laugh every time I looked at her. Especially when hearing her rave on and on about how she couldn't believe she broke her arm on Father's Day. Hahahahaha. She ended up wearing her cast and sling to church and kept it on during sacrament meeting right up to the point when it was time for the kids to go on the stand and sing to their dads.
Ethan or Sophie must have signed "DAD" for her.
We made it through church and after changing and eating a quick lunch we headed off to the hospital to visit Jane where she had been admitted around noon. Grace was so sweet and thought of a bunch of stuff from home to bring for Jane. She gathered up her quilt, a junk {stuffed animal for the uninitiated}, her bottle, and a couple of books. Everyone was really excited to be at the hospital and the "Child Life Activity Room" was a huge draw.
We brought her "Colors" book, of course...
...and a new favorite, too -- Mary Engelbreit's Mother Goose. It's one of the only things other than the iPad that will keep her still during a breathing treatment. It's the perfect length because it takes just about the same amount of time to read through as the breathing treatments last.
Happy Father's Day! Kind of cute if I do say so myself. Hahaha
Entertaining Interlude #2:
Before leaving for church I told Ethan to google some Father's Day questions and try to throw together some cards for the kids to work on for Scott during church. Like I said, I was not really on top of the whole Father's Day thing this year. Unfortunately, these cards never did completely materialize -- mostly because I didn't have enough time to help them and Ethan was the only one able to read everything well enough on his own during sacrament meeting. But I had to laugh out loud when I scanned through his list and read his answer to question number 15. Hahahahahahaha.
After we visited Jane, our Bishop and his wife were SO kind to invite us over for dinner and even though I felt bad about crashing their Father's Day meal, I was so appreciative of not having to go home and throw something together for the kids! Once I got home and put Alex to bed another friend so graciously offered to come over and stay with the kids so I could back to the hospital for a bit before going to bed.
Jane was asleep the whole time I was there, but it was nice to spend a little time with Scott before heading home and going to sleep. And then sleeping (almost) the whole night through! {There was one little wake-up call from Alex around 2. But that was it.}
This is how I left the little Sleeping Beauty.
So that was our Father's Day. Lots of fun, right? Hahahaha. In all honesty, I feel a bit like that whole relativity thing I mentioned a few blog posts ago really came into play this weekend. When Jane was hospitalized back in the fall, Scott was out of town and I had a newborn. That was REALLY hard. In comparison, this weekend's hospital trip has been almost easy. Scott was here and able to help, Alex is much older, and we've had so many kind friends offer to help us out. We are truly blessed. Jane is already doing a bit better -- they've been able to stretch her breathing treatments out to every 3 hours -- and I'm really optimistic that she (and Scott) will be able to come home this evening. So, until then, the bacon will just have to wait. Hahahaha.

You're amazing! I would've skipped church all together! Way to go, Mom!
Nice haircut Scott!
And graces "cast" looks legit.
i THOUGHT about skipping church, but then decided that if i stayed home i'd have to deal with all of them by myself on no sleep. if i went to church, i just had to get through sacrament meeting and then i could pawn them off on their primary teachers! hahahaha.
and grace's cast TOTALLY looked legit. ahahaha. she's a creative girl that one!
i love how Ethan is already turning into Scott 2.0 with his google search skills hahaha. I can totally picture Grace with her cast making herself believe also that it was broken. Poor littl Sugar Pop!
Where do I begin!? Poor little Jane, and Scott and YOU! Sleep deprivation is killer. Meanwhile, Grace's cast is a hoot! She's hilarious. Love the pic of Scott with the kids. Perfection. Kudos on such a busy -- but darling fam!
i LOVE that picture of scott with all the kids!! seriously SO cute - and totally worth the hospital trip! you will always remember that Father's Day because of that picture.
