Family "Fun Day"

So apparently Grace thinks we never do ANYTHING fun on Saturdays.  While part of me is thrilled that she recognizes that watching TV/having screen time for the bulk of the day isn't all that exciting, another part of me is annoyed that she doesn't recognize that I try to get us to do fun stuff all the time.  But I guess the real problem is the disconnect between what I think is fun and what THEY think is fun.  Hahaha.  Because I would certainly never deem a 2 hour outing to the roller skating rink as something that would be fun for the whole family.  {Spoiler alert, it WASN'T.  Fun for the whole family that is.}

After a Saturday morning of getting chores done on the kids part, and going through baby stuff on my part, we agreed to "have some fun," and took them to go skating.  And by them I mean everyone but Ethan.  Who flat out refused to go.  I'm not sure why he was so vehemently opposed to going, but I certainly wasn't going to force the issue if it meant an ultimate freak out fit from the firstborn.

Grace, meanwhile, was the driving force behind this operation, and I believe she thoroughly enjoyed herself the whole time.  Sophie and Jane spent most of the time falling, with Scott trying to help as best he could; and Alex didn't even bother renting skates -- he wanted no part of that action in the rink.  Instead, he convinced me to buy him some snacks from the concession stand and then fork over some money for quarters to use in the arcade area.  Hahaha.  Unfortunately, by the end, NO ONE was in a happy mood.  Having a late Friday night thanks to movie night almost always yields uber tired and melting down children on Saturdays.  And then, between that and the bumps and bruises from falling down for 2 hours straight, it was no surprise that meltdowns were bound to happen.  It was nothing a little stop for ice cream on the way home couldn't help, though, and in the end, I think we managed to have a Family Fun Day.  Even if the WHOLE family wasn't there.   ;)

 {Showcasing his "purchase" from all the tickets he won at the arcade.}

The baby is now all set with freshly laundered clothes!

oh, how i love the last photo of the freshly stacked baby clothes. nothing better in the whole world! It's finally time! longest 9 months ever, ay??

ok, y'all are a super fun family. so nice of you to oblige to grace's idea at the roller rink, bc as a kid i thought that was the ultimate field trip!!! I'd always be self conscious when we'd go for a friend's bday party or school trip, so falling and not being embarrassed with just the family sounds perfect, actually.
