True story -- 3 years ago on this VERY night, I was blogging about Jane's last rainbow themed birthday! Kind of funny, right?? Hahaha. This year, since we were going for round 2 of the rainbow cake, I decided to really up the ante and go all out in making it the best rainbow cake ever. :)

One can never go wrong with sprinkles, right??

And then marshmallows for clouds and the AWESOME rainbow-colored star candles that Jane picked out at Meijer were just the perfect finishing touches. :)
Saturday morning was devoted to getting ready for Jane's "party." Although, I will say that the late night on Friday REALLY made things a bit dicey for the rest of the weekend. I had taken the kids to Target on Friday (before Ethan's meet), to pick out Jane's presents and the plan for Saturday morning was for the kids to do their chores while I worked on the cake, and then -- once they were done cleaning -- they could have some screen time while wrapping all the presents. A task which Grace in particular REALLY loves to do. Even though the morning was derailed by an absolute train wreck of a meltdown from son number one, in the end, everyone finished their tasks and I was able to work on the cake in peace.

Jane's cake had the winning-est combo of flavors in my book -- devil's food cake + cream cheese frosting -- and since this wasn't my first rodeo attempting a rainbow, it was relatively easy to put together. {You take two round cakes, cut them in half, stack them together with frosting in between the layers, and then frost the whole thing up. That's the short story. The longer version involves wrapping the pieces in plastic wrap and sticking them in the freezer right out of the oven; taking them out to assemble and put on a "crumb coat;" sticking it BACK in the freezer to set up the frosting; and then taking it out for the final coat of frosting and decorations.}

By noon, we were ready to party. :) We sang, Jane opened presents, and then we ate cake. And it happened just as quickly as it sounds. Hahaha. And yes -- it DOES pain me slightly to cut into the cake and eat it mere minutes after finishing it up. Especially since it's devoured in a fraction of the time it took to make it.

The theme for this year's birthday (other than rainbows, of course), seemed to be baby doll accessories and accoutrements. And Jane was absolutely thrilled! She got her own baby doll pack n play, stroller, and doll clothes, along with a brand new baby doll from Alex.

The ribbon wand from Grandma and Grandpa was also a big hit!

A mother can always dream, right??

And that was that. Overall, her little party was a hit. The day surrounding it was a bit stormy -- metaphorically speaking -- but at least we had some sunshine with our rainbow. :) Hahahaha.

I love that rainbow of icing!
