Playing Catch Up

Labor Day weekend has come and gone, and with it were some highlights and lowlights.

Lowlight number 1? Our air conditioning went out on Sunday afternoon. And it was only in the 90s, of course.  BOOOOO!  We came home from church to a markedly hotter house than what we left, and quickly realized that the thermostat was climbing up.  We tried changing the filter, and that worked for awhile, but then things took a nose dive once again.  Luckily we were able to get someone out here on Monday morning, and after replacing 3 POUNDS of freon, we were good to go!

Highlight number 1?  The Color Splash 5K that the girls' cross country team was putting on for a fundraiser.  We turned it into a family affair, and even though it was just Ethan, Grace, and Sophie who were running, everyone was able to enjoy the fun.

Other highlights of the day included Dunkin' Donuts for breakfast, a splash in the pool, and Grace and Sophie going to bed an HOUR EARLY because they just wanted to get back to reading the books they are currently engrossed in.  :)

{Picture from this afternoon, of Grace curled up in the TV room, totally immersed in her book.  Shortly after taking this picture, she came into the kitchen to eat dinner, and then took herself off to bed -- extra early, once again -- so that she could continue on with her reading.}

Further lowlights won't be disclosed, because certain children have gotten to a point where they don't want incriminating and embarrassing evidence posted about them on our {public} family blog.  So I guess I'll just have to respect his wishes regarding that matter.  But rest assured that our Labor Day holiday was not ALL sunshine and roses.

Today, it was back to the grind all too early, but at least there was something to look forward to -- it was the long-awaited first day of Pre-K for Alex, and he couldn't have been MORE excited.  Ever since his "Meet and Greet" last Thursday, he has been asking if it's time for him to go.  He was not pleased that he had to wait until today, but he managed to bide his time well enough after I said a prayer with him that "the time would go by fast."  :)

Unfortunately, he STILL had to wait a bit this morning after waking up and being ready to go.  He literally wore his backpack around the house for an hour or so before it was even time to leave, and began asking from about 9 o'clock on if it was time to eat lunch and go to school.  Hahaha.  Of course, once we were there, he was far too embarrassed to let me take a picture in front of the school, so I had to make do with a shot "on the grass" instead.  It was the only concession he allowed.  Thankfully, his school day lived up to his expectations, and he came home afterwards raving about what a good day it was.  It's hard to believe that he will be starting Kindergarten in just one year!!

And that is that!  My ribs are killing me, and I'm SUPER tired, so I think it's time for me to get ready for bed.  :)  Until next time...
