Almost a Brace Face

Last Thursday, the big day came for our trailblazing orthodontia patient. We went in thinking she'd get her expander AND front braces, but in the end she apparently needs some expansion to happen before the braces can come on.

In the car, before heading in for her appointment.

Her "Before" pictures.  How hilarious is that sober mugshot up there.  Hahahaha.

I was surprised at how quickly they installed the expander, and after a quick demo on how to "turn" it, we were on our way.  I was thrilled to discover I have yet ANOTHER thing to remember to do {because the Flovent puffers for the asthma girls isn't enough to remember to do twice a day, every day}, and for the next 5 weeks I get to turn the gizmo on the expander every other day for a total of 16 turns.  At that point, when we go back in for the next appointment, her palette will hopefully be expanded enough to get those Phase 1  braces on.  :)

Close-up of that cross-bite.

The expander -- because I know EVERYONE wants a visual for that.  Hahahaha.

Now if only we can remember that she's NOT supposed to eat anything sticky and chewy from here on out!!!  Hahaha.  Let's just say that prior to getting the expander -- when all she had were the rubber band spacers -- we had to go in 3 different times to get them replaced because she/we forgot and she ate something that pulled them out. Doh!  Hahahaha.  Hopefully by the time Grace gets her braces next year we'll be old pros at this.  :)
