SCOTT: How are kids?
ME: Fine enough.
SCOTT: Good
ME: I'm having them plan out the menu for the month. They each get a week to be in charge of. Just as a heads up, we're going to be having a ton of mac and cheese in august.
SCOTT: Hahahahaha. That's fine.
ME: Maybe they'll OD on it and we'll never have to have it again.
SCOTT: Hahaha.I think I've said it before, but I'll say it again -- planning the menu for the month is one chore that I dread doing and procrastinate as long as possible. Mostly because there's not much rewarding in it. There are only a handful of meals that EVERYONE will eat and like, anyway, and most nights end up with at least one meltdown over what I've made for dinner and I just get sick of hearing who hates what.
So, knowing I needed to go grocery shopping today, I came up with the brilliant plan of farming the planning out to the kids! I gave each of the 4 older ones a week to fill out, and told them to go ahead and pencil in whatever they wanted to eat for dinner on those nights. The result? Hopefully everyone will be a whole lot happier at dinnertime. Although, I have a sneaking suspicion that mac and cheese 3 times in one month won't be quite as exciting as they're thinking. Hahahaha. :)
Jane's {birthday} week -- she had a hard time deciding whether to have chicken nuggets or Mac and Cheese for her big day. In the end the mac-a-doodles won out.
{It's way too hard to read from this picture, but just in case you're wondering what the other kids planned, here it is:
Ethan -- Taco Salad, Mac and Cheese, Pizza
Grace -- Lemon Pepper Chicken, Mac and Cheese, Cereal Night {for Alex's birthday meal -- he loves him some Life}, Hamburgers, and Salad
Sophie -- Sloppy Joe's, Jumbalaya, Spaghetti, and Gumbo
Quite the menu! Right?? Hahahaha.}

I should try this. I feel like I make a lot of the same stuff each week.
Sophie has good taste!
ditto to emily's comment! I wanna come when Sophie's in charge of dinner :)
