Flashback Friday -- Red, White, and Blue

Grace -- 4 July 2007

Today's flashback is a brief one.  I was thinking about Grace this week and that dress she's wearing in the picture above and below.  It's technically a 4th of July dress and she did actually wear it on that day 7 years ago, but more than that -- she wore it EVERY day.  Because to her, it was her "Annie" dress.  As a 2 1/2 year old, Grace was obsessed with the movie Annie.  And as soon as we walked into Gymboree on a shopping "date" that summer, she glommed onto that dress like you wouldn't believe.  She thought it looked just like Annie's dress in the movie and she was over the moon about it.

Here's Grace after she had me curl her hair like Annie's in order to complete her transformation {the sponge rollers kind of worked}.  Doggie -- one of her first junks that she loved -- filled the role of Sandy.

I kid you not, she probably went an entire month wearing that dress, morning, noon, and night.  Occasionally, I'd manage to pry it off of her to throw in the wash, but most of the time it wasn't worth the fight.  Even after she gave up wearing it exclusively, it remained a favorite dress and she still wore it on a very regular basis.

The reason I've been thinking about her and that Annie dress lately is because Alex has begun to follow in her footsteps this summer.  That superhero "Here to Party" shirt that I bought him at Old Navy a couple of weeks ago?  Well, let's just say that it is HERE to PARTY.  Hahaha.  Alex -- like Grace and that dress -- wears it morning, noon, and night.  Even on days when I actually try and put something else on him, he will invariably show up downstairs a little while later with his uniform resolutely back on.  He LOVES that shirt.  It kind of cracks me up. It's been about a week and a half straight at this point that he's been wearing it and he's showing no signs of relenting.

4 July 2014 -- The fam before dropping Ethan off at scout camp and then heading over to the church for a 4th of July breakfast.  It was pretty hard to scrounge up red, white, and blue for everyone, but don't worry -- Alex is covered.  Captain America is on that shirt and CLEARLY covers the colors of patriotism.  Hahaha.

It's good to know that he'll eventually move on from this phase, but this time around I'm a lot more carefree about it.  I remember it driving me crazy with Grace that she wouldn't just wear something else.  With Alex, I just think it's hilarious.  I guess that's the difference between a second born and a fifth born.  Poor little guinea pig children at the front end of the spectrum.  Hahaha.  It's a good reminder to me that -- in general -- I really could use some lightening up when it comes to all matters that frustrate me as a mom.  :)  And that's a wrap.  Although, p.s. -- do you SEE how much alike Alex and Grace look here at the same age of 2 1/2??? In the last two pictures in particular, Alex and Flashback Grace have almost the same smile/look on their face!  Crazy.

Happy 4th of July!
