Now I need to track down a table saw and trim these shelves down to size before everything's up to snuff. I guess all my junk will have to take up space on the Dining Room floor for just a little bit longer. Until then here is my progress.
Before...
...and After.
Here is the inside (minus those blasted shelves, of course). I covered the plywood insert with this fabric (which I love) from Joel Dewberry's "Heirloom" line. Even though I love this fabric I'm a bit on the fence for how it
works in the hutch. However, so many staples went into the back of
this board that I don't really want to change the fabric out any time
soon. Maybe once the shelves are in it will work for me a little bit
better. And just to highlight my incompetency some more, this piece of plywood is not quite cut to size either. But at least I can get it in!

Loving it! That fabric is adorable! Don't change it! Bummer about the shelves. Don't worry though...it will all be worth it when you're done! You could always try to bring the shelves to Home Depot and have them cut them down for you. They do that sort of thing for free.
I love the fabric backing! And I think you are right--once you get the shelves in (and stuff on them), it will be more of a splash of color than the main focus. But its really fun either way.
i can't believe you were able to cover all those carvings!! was that the trickiest part?!? and i LOVE the surprise of that gorgeous floral fabric inside!!!!! i was gonna ask how you attached it, but was glad that you mentioned you stapled it, i was wondering if you like glue-gunned it or something.
thanks everyone! i'm really excited to be able to finally get this inside the house and be able to USE it for all of my fabric and quilting paraphernalia.
covering the carvings was actually not that hard at all -- i just spackled the routed lines and then sanded. pulling those wooden appliqued plaques off was A LOT harder. that and stabilizing the piece -- it was a bit rickety and i was worried it would all fall apart as soon as i tried to move it.
Love it! Great job mama.
It looks awesome! Very impressive. And I agree with the fabric thing, I think it looks good and will look even better with the shelves so it's more of a pop of color. But it still looks amazing!
