One of my favorite things about the pre-digital-everything age, were the cards and letters and packages that my mom would put together to send me my freshman year of college. Let me just tell you there are some JEWELS in those communications. It's just not quite the same when it comes via email.
At some point during my freshman year I received a fat sheaf of paper folded together, stuffed in an envelope, and labeled "Freddie's Language Arts Portfolio!" Pure comic gold in there, let me tell you. But amidst all the (unintentionally) entertaining ridiculata was actually a rather sweet tribute to my mom. I'm not sure what type of poem this assignment was fulfilling, but in honor of Mother's Day here are some of the truest words ever written...

{Happy Mother's Day, mom! I love you.}

Well top of the morning to YOU. hahaha. Did you write that, or did I? Ha I do not remember that at all. What other goodies were in my folder? I
PS did she throw in my mentor voodoo doll I made of her too in that package? hahahaha
did I write that?? no, my friend, i'm not that good of a poet. hahahaha. that was in "Freddie's Language Arts Portfolio!" (and yes there was an exclamation point in the original label) along with an interview with steve young, several other poems, a couple of personal narrative type pieces -- from when jacob was born and from when you broke your collar bone, and an author's bio. its a good thing i save pretty much everything, isn't it. hahahahahahaha. have a blessed day!
and no -- there was no mentor voodoo doll. that sounds really creepy.
t totally remember this "typer of typings".
what a sweet mothers day flashback. i love you mama!!!
haha - typer of typings!! so true! my mom used to type up our papers for us too - it was just so much faster. i can still hear the clickity clack of her long nails on the keyboard... :)
It's a cinquain!
that was not a voodoo doll, but his "mentor" doll for a school project. I was a typer of typings because dad didn't have a secretary and I would do his dictation every spare minute I had.
great memory Jessica. someone's got to find a picture of the evening we went to the middle school to see that thing on display. Love that boy!
