Wingardiam Leviosa!

It took five years of mocking resistance before I caved in and gave Harry Potter a shot, but once I did, I fell in love.  But as karma would have it, I have met resistance from almost ALL of my children with regards to reading the {full} series of books.  Ethan is the only one who has stuck with them until the very end, but even he only started reading them in order to be able to watch the movies when he was younger.  I would say it wasn't until he got to book 5 or 6 that he was truly hooked and wanted to finish the series to find out what happened.  Grace and Sophie have both started -- and stopped -- the series, and I've been trying to get Jane to start it with me all summer, with no luck.  So I can't even describe how thrilled I was a few nights ago, when Jane finally agreed to start reading the first book with me at bedtime!  And she's even been reading a bit on her own!  And she seems to actually be liking it!!!  Hahaha.  The last couple of nights have been a treasure.  :)  Here's to hoping she loves the experience, too!

 Life Lessons from Harry Potter:

* Good will always triumph over evil

* Everything is made better with friends

* We are uniquely suited to overcome our greatest challenges

* Sometimes even bad guys can change their ways

* But true evil will always be evil

* We're never truly alone

* Life isn't always fair

* It takes brains, loyalty, and courage to overcome

* And finally -- LOVE is the most powerful force on earth

We are half way through reading the first book in the series at bedtime. I really have disliked reading to my kids up until I convinced them to let me read Harry Potter to them. It totally helps to have a book that I love! They actually want me to keep reading longer each night so I am calling it a win.

I resisted introducing them to the kids for a while. We are in full HP love affair mode now. And it definitely has my reluctant readers reading!

I have never read the books, but I have seen the movies. Yes, I know that makes me so NOT an expert. But my husband LOVES the books. Anyway, i've decided we will definitely be reading them as a family once the kids are old enough to appreciate it. did i just make a family decision without consulting anyone in my family? yes.
