The Graduates

Summer is in full swing!  We just got back from a week long vacation, which I fully intend to recap, but before we can go into all that jazz, there is still a TON of end-of-the-year stuff to cover...

The last week of school saw two momentous graduation type events -- Ethan's 6th Grade Recognition Night and Jane's Kindergarten Sing.  Up first?  Ethan's big night.

 Ethan's aspiration for the future.

Highlights of the night included his opening introduction, High Honors recognition, Presidential Excellence award, Citizenship Award runner-up prize, and a video compilation of the highlights of their 6th grade year.  Nothing makes me happier than seeing Ethan happy, so this night was one of the happiest of the year for me.  :)  He's worked really hard this year and we're so proud of him!

Unfortunately, not EVERYONE was so happy to be there.  Lover Boy had pretty much zero attention span for the whole evening.  We're talking full-on dust angels while lying on the gym floor, trying to sneak cupcakes and cookies from the display table before the ceremony was over, "needing" to go to the bathroom and get water every few minutes, and more.  Fun times I tell ya!

Fortunately, the Recognition Night didn't last forever, and Alex was finally able to get his treats and I was able to get a family photo with the graduate.  As you can see from the picture, everyone but Grace took the memo seriously that the evening was supposed to be a dressier affair.  Grace couldn't be convinced to change into anything CLEAN much less dressy, so running shorts, t-shirt, and messy pony tail it was.  We'll just have to wait and see what she decides to do for her OWN 6th grade graduation in a couple of years.  All in all, it was a lovely evening out, even if it DID put every kid late for their bedtime.

The very next day was Jane's celebration and her "Spring Sing" and picnic were adorable.  And apparently Jane has not an ounce of stage fright in her.  She was quite the character up there on the risers while singing all the songs and doing all the actions.  I was afraid during a couple of parts that she was going to fall off the back because her antics were so out of control!  Hahaha.  Alex, meanwhile, had ALMOST the same reaction to Jane's event as Ethan's.  He didn't resort to any dust angels this time, but he DID spend the entire time sitting on the floor in the middle of the aisle in various stages of lounging and repose as he listened to the music and continued to ask if it was over yet.

 Oh Lover Boy.

Once the singing portion was over, we moved on to her classroom to see a few end of year projects and take pictures with her teacher before moving on to the family picnic outdoors.  It had turned a bit chilly that day, so the picnic wasn't quite as enjoyable as it COULD have been, but we had fun nonetheless.  {And Alex was certainly happy that he had brought his "soft" blanket to cuddle up in and stay warm.  Haha.}

It seems like just yesterday that I was at Ethan's Kindergarten Sing with Grace and Sophie in tow {and Jane on the way}.  It's hard to imagine that in just a few short years, JANE will be the 6th grade graduate and Ethan will be graduating from High School.  Time needs to stop flying by so fast!!!

Stay tuned for the Last Day of School post...
