A Mother's Day Program

Yesterday was my favorite day of the year!  The Mother's Day program at Alex's preschool.  Alex has been telling me for WEEKS now that he had a special surprise for me, but couldn't tell ME, only Dad.  Having been to Jane's program last year, I suspected that there would be an adorable hat and some singing to enjoy, but other than that, I didn't know what was in the works.

Thanks to my insistence, he agreed to "dress up" for preschool yesterday and requested a "polo shirt" for the occasion.  Hahaha.  I just uncovered a bag of Ethan's old size 4 clothes in the basement this weekend, and there were a couple of polos in the mix. Other than that, there weren't a lot left that I had saved, but there were a few new options in there for him to expand his repertoire outside of superhero apparel.

As I dropped him off at the beginning of preschool, he informed me that he wasn't going to sing in the program, and true to his word, he did NOT.  Hahaha.  He was "too embarrassed."  So instead, he parked it on the steps in the front row, while the rest of his class stood around him and sang to their mothers.  And then, when an adorable video ran, featuring all the preschoolers saying what they loved about their mothers, Alex was in absentia once again.  Hahaha.  The preschool director apologized to me in advance, letting me know that they tried two different times to get him on video, but he refused to talk each time.  Haha.  It's a good thing I know that he REALLY loves me a lot.  Perhaps by next year's program, he'll be over his embarrassment phase and will actually participate for real.  :)

Can you spot him?  Hahaha.

When the Pre-K class came in to sing with his group, he just removed himself from the situation entirely.  Hahahaha.

Eventually, his teacher went over to keep him company.  :)

After the program was over, the kids gave their mothers a carnation and then led them to the refreshments.  Here is where Alex REALLY began to shine.  After giving me my flower, he made a beeline straight for the food and we were the first ones in there to eat!  Hahaha.  He got himself a cup of lemonade and a cookie first, and then, surprised me by going back and getting me MY food to serve me.  It was adorable and hilarious.  Once we finished up with our treats, we headed back to his cubby to pick up the top secret Mother's Day gift.  And the surprise was worth the wait!  :)

He painted me a garden brick!  Love it.

Once we got home, I had Sophie snap some pictures of me and my Lover Boy.  They turned out hilariously awesome.  Enjoy the following photo dump...

 Close up of the adorableness.

And it's finally resting place.  Sophie and Jane helped Alex decorate around the brick.  :)

And one last closing pic just to make everyone laugh -- because that mug shot NEVER gets old.  Hahaha.  Here is Alex's lego man for their class bulletin board.  Obviously, he chose a superhero guy.  :)
