He is the Gift

As I sat down at the computer this afternoon to send out a few emails, I found the Primary talk that I had printed out for Ethan on Sunday, and that we had left behind and thought was lost.  {He was able to read the talk off of my phone, though, where the talk and conveniently been emailed to me the night before by Scott, so crisis averted!  Whew!!}  The talk was a collaborative effort between Scott and Ethan, and as I read over it once more this afternoon, it really struck a chord.

I’ve been asked to speak today on the topic of: “We Remember and Worship Our Savior, Jesus Christ.” I think it makes sense that this would be the topic for the month of December since this is when we celebrate Christmas. I know that the whole reason we celebrate Christmas is because of Jesus Christ, but it sometimes is easy to forget that. We all probably should think less about Santa Claus and the coolest present we want for Christmas, and more about the most important gift of Christmas. And that gift is Christ Himself.

This past Monday for Family Home Evening, our family watched the new church video called, “He is the Gift.” If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch it with your family online and it’s a really short video. The first part of the video shows people doing all kinds of things that you and your parents are probably doing a lot these days: shopping, standing in lines at stores, and decorating. Then the video reminds us all that the most important part of Christmas is actually Jesus Christ and that He is the Gift.

I like the video because it is a helpful reminder of what Christmas should be all about. In John, chapter 14, verse 6, we read, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” I think this means that to return to live with our Heavenly Father, we need to follow the Savior’s example and remember Him always. Jesus is the way that we can return. And we can remember and worship Jesus Christ by doing many of the things that we’re supposed to be doing: praying, reading the scriptures, going to church, taking the sacrament, obeying our parents, having Family Home Evening, listening to General Conference, and many others.

The end of “He is the Gift” shows images of people reading their scriptures and praying as ways to discover the Gift and embrace the Gift. I hope and pray that we can all do the same, especially during this Christmas season. I want to bear my testimony that I know that Jesus Christ is God’s Son. And I know that we can return to live with our Heavenly Father by following his example. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

I want to add my testimony to Ethan's.  I know that the Savior lives and that He loves us.  He is the gift.  I am grateful at this time of year, and at all times of year, that Christ the Savior was born.   I want to "Share The Gift" by testifying of God's love for us.  He lives and He loves us.  This I know is true.
