Jane LOVES this book. It is her very favorite. As in we read it several times throughout the day and several MORE times before nap time or bed time. She sleeps with it, carries it around with her by day, and I've even seen her trying to "read" it to her baby doll and to Alex. Because I am super lazy and actually REALLY hate reading aloud, I have come up with a super quick way to read this book which involves singing all the colors going up and down a scale. Super quick, super easy, and super hilarious to hear Jane try to sing it on her own. "Red, Yellow, Orange, Blue, Green, Purple, Pink, Brown {going up the scale and holding it on that top note with "brown"}, Black, White, Silver, Gold, Rainbow, and Shapes {going down the scale and pausing with drama on the "and" before finishing with flair on the "shapes"}. It has become a bit. Jane just LOVES her colors.
Needless to say, when I discovered this quilt online I knew I just HAD to make one for my little Rainbow Brite! Hahahaha. Here are the fruits of my labor {so far} -- it took me 4 quilting stores and almost a full day's worth of searching to find the following rainbow-colored hues:
{All the colors of the rainbow}
The quilt in the link above was made as part of an online quilt-along and the pattern is called "Bottled Rainbows." I followed the color selections from her tutorial as closely as possible, although I did substitute out a few shades that I liked a little better/was able to find in my local stores {I was WAY too impatient to get started on this project to buy specific fabrics online}. All the colors are Kona cotton solids and I've labeled them for your information below. Because I know there are SO many of you reading this blog who want to run out and start making a quilt like this, too. Hahahahahaha.
{The only one I'm not completely sold on yet is "Thistle" -- I think I'd like a more purple-y shade. I'm going to try and track down "Crocus" this afternoon. Other than that, the sight of this gorgeous rainbow of colors makes me REALLY happy. And Jane can't wait for me to make her "rainbow quilt."}
And that's the latest over here. In closing, I would like to point out that I have just discovered the excitement of adding text to pictures via Picasa, so watch out! Hahahahaha.
