In the Driver's Seat

Ladies and gentlemen, we have another driver in the house!  After our devastating attempt to procure a driver's permit on Ethan's birthday a couple of weeks ago, Ethan has been waiting with bated breath to see if we could get ahold of his old high school for his transcript, in order to get the proper forms filled out from his new high school that will verify that he has higher than a 2.0 GPA.

After being told that the counselors' offices were closed until the end of July and we might not be able to get the transcript until then, Ethan was pretty ecstatic when I received an email with an unofficial transcript we could use for the time being.  Thankfully, it was good enough to get the driver's permit form, and we headed back yesterday afternoon for Ethan to try his luck at the written test.

We arrived "early" for the test in the hopes that we'd avoid a long wait in line.  Unfortunately, quite a few people had the same idea.  Hahaha.  Getting there at 12:50 when the doors opened at 1 o'clock was not exactly the best way to guarantee front row seats.  Nevertheless, we finally made it to the desk and this time had all the proper papers and forms to let Ethan take his test.

Ethan wasn't nervous about the test at all -- which is good, I guess -- but I was starting to get a little nervous, myself, when a couple of the kids who finished before Ethan failed the test and left with downtrodden looks and borderline tears after hearing that they'd have to wait a week to come back and try again.  Ethan must have taken enough practiced tests online, though, because he passed with flying colors and was super stoked to get that official piece of paper that will now allow him to drive and practice his skillz on the road.

And practice he has!  Every chance he gets, he's in the driver's seat and super pumped to be there.  He's pretty good for a newbie, and with some more hours under his belt, I'll feel super comfortable with him getting a real license next year.  :)
