Things I Probably Didn't Have Time For Today

{Subtitled: Hopalong Cassidy and His Gimpy Leg}

In case you didn't know, we are T-minus two days away from our Big East Coast Road Trip, and there's still TONS of stuff left to get done.  So of course, I ended up spending my morning at the doctor's office and the children's hospital radiology lab getting Isaac's gimpy leg checked out.

While playing in the {newly cleaned} basement yesterday afternoon, Isaac apparently tried to walk right off the edge of a cedar chest he was climbing on.  I was trying to make dinner in the kitchen when it happened, but when Ethan first brought him upstairs, Isaac was crying a ton and couldn't really put weight on his right leg.  I held him for a bit and comforted him until he stopped crying and then plopped him into his high chair so that he could eat some dinner.  I thought that was the end of that until I got him out of his high chair and noticed that he was still limping all around the house.

Well, this morning rolled around, and he was still limping, and even though he didn't seem to be hurting, his gait was so halting and "off" that I thought I should give the doctor a call seeing as to how we are about to embark on such a long road trip.  So, I took him in, the doctor agreed he was favoring his right leg, and she wrote up an order for an X-ray at the children's hospital outpatient lab.  She normally wouldn't have called for an X-ray this soon, but given the circumstances, she thought we should check it out.

It was a slight struggle to get Hopalong to stay still for the imaging, but we made it work and then went on our merry way.  When the doctor called with the results this afternoon, I wasn't sure what to expect given the fact that Isaac is still fully able to walk all around even with the limp.  The doctor informed me that there is no visible fracture {at least yet}, but that there is swelling of the soft tissue at the top of the tibia.  So basically, we wait and see.  I guess it can sometimes take a few days for a fracture to show up on X-ray?  But unless he gets worse overnight, we'll be heading off as planned for our trip this Friday and hoping the limp gets better on its own.  If it doesn't -- and he's still limping around by the time we get back -- the doctor said she'll send us straight over to orthopedics.

So there you have it!  Another eventful day with my crew.  Thankfully, we still managed to get our shopping done for the road trip -- in spite of the wrench thrown in our plans this morning -- and the kids have mostly finished their laundry and other assignments I've given them to help get ready for our trip.  Hopefully, over the next 48 hours, everything will ALL start to come together...

Yikes! I hope he's okay. I'm sure you have your trip all planned out and don't need to make any more stops but if you do need a place to refuel for a bit and rest for a bit, please contact me. We're about an hour outside of NYC. Safe journey!!
