Today's big excitement happened around 8:30 this morning when Isaac chucked a fork at my eye. I had just finished eating my egg scramble for breakfast and was digging into a juicy, ruby red grapefruit when I quite literally didn't know what had hit me.
As I collapsed to the ground crying, Isaac laughed maniacally for a couple of minutes while still standing on the stool next to the counter before finally coming over to check to see what was going on. I think he attempted to give me a hug, but his efforts at compassion are rudimentary at best, and in the end, he just wandered off to find something more exciting to do.
In his defense (?), I think he thought I was laughing while I was puddled on the ground -- or at least playing some kind of game -- but that didn't change the fact that it HURT. Alex, meanwhile, was so engrossed in his watching of The Magic School Bus in the family room, that he didn't even know what was happening until after the fact. I guess it's a good thing I was still wearing my glasses when it happened. Who knows how much more damage would have been inflicted otherwise??
Hopefully, I will not wake up tomorrow morning with a black eye (like Jane after her trampoline accident) and hopefully, tomorrow will be a little LESS eventful than today. ;)
{p.s. -- Sophie was the only kid who noticed my eye right away when coming home from school and expressed concern. Jane's only comment when walking through the door was that my hair was down and it made me look different. Grace laughed hysterically when she heard what Isaac had done, and Ethan chuckled a bit as well. I guess it does make for a kind of entertaining story.}
