Today was the last day of school for 2016! And to commemorate it, I made not one, but two separate trips to the school this morning to help the kids with their celebrations. First for Jane -- who left her wrapped book exchange gift on the table while getting ready for school, and then for Sophie -- who needed her own special order, dairy-free pizza to enjoy for lunch while the rest of her grade was having regular pizza for their party.
My presents from the kids. :)
To continue the celebrating once everyone was home, I thought it would be fun to kick-off our vacation with a double-feature movie night. And to make it EXTRA fun, I dragged a full-sized mattress up from the basement to make the family room even more comfy cozy. After dinner, we got everyone set up with pillows and blankets, and then spent about 20 minutes trying to get everyone to agree on a movie to watch. In the end, I let everyone write two options on post-it notes, and then Scott picked one out of a bowl. The winner? Storks. Which we didn't even have, so we ended up renting it on Amazon Prime. Haha.
Once the first movie was over, I continued the fun by letting the kids open up one of the presents I got them for Christmas. Because I'm not very good at waiting. Or surprises. And neither are they. Hahahaha. So, they opened a present (a new game) and then we attempted to put Alex and Jane down for bed. {Isaac had gone to bed before the festivities started.}
While Scott and I were upstairs with the little ones, however, World War III was erupting with the older ones downstairs. By the time I got down there, Ethan was already in the process of shoving the mattress back down the basement stairs, because the girls were playing around on it and getting on his nerves and he likes to take matters into his own hands. The girls, in turn, were having their own freak out because he was bothering THEM. Ah, the sweet sounds of home. Nothing says cozy Christmas kick-off like screaming and fighting and bloodshed. Hahaha. Just kidding. About the bloodshed, that is. There was plenty of screaming and fighting for about 20 minutes before I managed to calm the storm, re-instate the mattress, and negotiate a compromise between the warring factions over what to watch next. The solution was a TV show {while Scott was upstairs getting Alex and Jane to go to sleep} followed by another movie to finish off the night -- the 1995, critically acclaimed Heavyweights. Hahaha. Seriously, though. There is NO WAY a movie like that would be made in this day and age.
That kid!!!
