Ring Out the Old, Ring in the New

Happy New Year!  Now that I'm finally done catching up on Christmas, it's time to focus on a new year.  :)  Last night, for New Year's Eve, we all stayed in and had a family night.  We played some games, filled out our year in review sheets, and even let the older 3 stay up to ring in the new year.  And just for kicks, we let Isaac ring it in, too.  Hahahaha.  Before sending Alex and Jane up to bed, we played a few rounds of Bananagrams and then went over our lists.  I have to say, it was one of the more entertaining parts of the day to hear everyone's answers as we went around the table.  Jane is always the sleeper hit of hilarity when we do stuff all together like this.  Although, to be clear, there were portions of ALL their answers that made me laugh out loud.  :)   {The italicized portions indicate some of my favorite bits.}

Filling out sheets

And that was that! Scott let me sleep in this morning -- which was heavenly -- and then the rest of the day was spent quite enjoyably after I kicked kids off screens and got them out of the house.  :)  I thought Scott could use a bit of a break, so I took the 5 older kids with me to the church for them to play in the gym.  Alex brought his new balance bike, the girls brought scooters, and Ethan brought some balls.  We ended up staying for almost 2 hours and I think I can safely say that everyone enjoyed our time there.  Well, almost everyone.  Alex is running on fumes these days, thanks to late nights, early mornings, and a steady stream of sugar and screen time.  Monday is going to be a BEAST.  Hahaha.  Still, though, other than a couple different meltdowns, even Alex ended up having a good time, too.  Ethan and I shot some hoops and scootered around the gym, while the girls staged a production of Cinderella.  Once I got too tired to play any more "Around the World," Ethan and Alex joined in their fray while I worked on some Primary stuff, and before we left, I was treated to a pure, comic gold performance by the kids.  {The only funnier thing I witnessed today was the beginning of the music video that Ethan is shooting featuring a cover of Adele's "Hello" by Grace.}  Our night wrapped up with everyone going to bed early -- we're trying to baby step our way back to our normal schedule for next week -- and all in all, I'd have to say that 2016 is off to a great start!  :)
