At this rate, the summer will be over before I've even managed to capture the rest of the end-of-school-year happenings! And with a jam-packed summer -- we've already had FSY and Girl's Camp and now the T. Swizzle concert is up on deck, with our road trip following swiftly on its heels {See what I did there -- the Taylor Swift concert is swiftly followed by the road trip? Get it?? Hahahahahaha} -- a new school year will be upon us before we even know what's happening. With that in mind, I thought I should probably post something about our most recent graduate before it's time to send her off to college in the fall. {Insert a single tear emoji}
What -- doesn't everyone have a life-size skeleton in their bedroom to hang their clothes on? Hahaha.
If we were to compare and contrast Ethan's graduation ceremony experience with Grace's, I'd have to say that the class of 2021 really comes out ahead. The ONLY reason this is the case is that Ethan's was a million times shorter than Grace's. And that's only a slight exaggeration. Hahahaha. If you'll recall, we were still feeling the effects of Covid-19 during the Spring of '21 and thanks to an abundance of caution, the high school split the ceremony into 3 separate groups, with the graduate and family leaving the building as soon as they had walked across the stage. In my humble opinion, they should do this EVERY year. No one -- and I repeat, NO ONE -- wants to sit through 800+ names being called while waiting for the one that is their child. #FACTS
With the weather being so delightful, we wanted to take advantage of the daylight to sneak in a few pics before the ceremony started at 7. Scott wasn't able to make it in time for family pictures -- there was a work thing he had to attend in the next town over -- but he got there just as the doors were opening, and was able to "enjoy" Grace's graduation with the rest of us.
Why do 5 kids look like so much less than 6 kids??
Grace with her "only school friend," Taylor. (By which she means her only non-church-member-school-friend -- because there's a pretty good-sized group of youth from our ward who all attend the same school. Lol.)
Seriously -- so many students to get through.
Being relatively lucky that our last name is fairly close to the beginning of the alphabet, we were able to watch Grace walk across the stage before Isaac had completely exhausted his attention span. With his ability to sit still and be quiet growing steadily worse, however -- not to mention the fact that it was a school night and there were still many, MANY more names to go -- we quickly decided it would be to everyone's benefit if I took off with the kids while Scott stayed on to see things through. I'd say it was a pretty good call considering it was almost 10 before Scott and Grace finally got home.
Post-graduation-ceremony photo op with Scott...
...and with Christian.
Due to the graduation ceremony going so late, we ended up saving our family celebration for the next day. And the day after that. Hahaha. With presents and cupcakes on Friday and Grace's requested graduation dinner at Shogun on Saturday, we did our best to shower our graduate with love. We are so proud of her achievements and will miss her in the Fall! It's going to be so strange to not have her around. {Insert another single tear emoji}
Our ever-surprising surprise -- not only did she somehow make up all her missed days of seminary from this year, she was also 1 of only 2 seminary graduates from our ward.
Now that this post out of the way, we are FINALLY finished wrapping up the '22-'23 school year and can move on to recapping the summer! With that end in mind, stay tuned for a guest blogger in the form of Grace in the near future. I can't remember what exactly it was that Grace was wanting in a recent negotiation, but I do remember thinking that it was definitely worth it to have her cover FSY and Girl's Camp on the blog for me in return, so there you have it. Hahahaha. Until next time...
