We've Totally Got This

{Typed hesitantly, yet hopefully, as we end our first week here with boxes still everywhere, kids already starting to spiral into summertime "boredom," and lots of projects still to complete.}

When last we left off, we were on the cusp of our newest big adventure.  Now that we've had one week under our belts here, I can officially say that I think we're going to love it.  We have had SO many friendly and helping hands on this end who have helped to make our transition to a new place awesome.  And even though school is only barely getting out over HERE, the kids have already started to make some new friends with people they've met at church.

But first -- I know you're all DYING to hear how the drive down here went.  Right?!?  Hahahaha.  Well, let me tell ya, it was something else all right.  Haha.  Leading up to this epic drive was a week and a half straight of me being on my own with the kids while Scott had to head back to our NEW house for his new role after he flew home with us from the wedding.  I'm pretty sure I've reached a whole new level of insanity over the last couple of weeks with trying to get all the last minute house stuff done plus all the end of year school stuff done without having my better half here to help me.  It is not an exaggeration to say that I only survived those harried days thanks to the kindness of friends who helped out by bringing meals, watching kids for me, and getting Ethan to seminary each morning so that I wouldn't have to.

We were seriously so crammed into the van.  In retrospect, we should have had the movers pack our bedding and just borrowed stuff for the two nights we were camping out in our empty house.

(Alex and Jane with their next-door-neighbor BFFs that they're going to miss SO much in our new place.)

Needless to say, by the time last Saturday morning rolled around, I was MORE than ready to just get down here and be reunited with Scott.  So much so, that I ended up just pushing through and making the drive all in one day (and with only one stop for lunch/gas/bathrooms) because I just needed everything about this move to be over with.  We made awesome time, even if we did have listen to Alex freak out for a good half the trip because he needed to go to the bathroom and I wouldn't pull over.  {Don't judge me FREDDIE!}  Hahaha.  And since Alex refused to use the diaper that I threw back to him, we got to hear quite a bit of whining for the bulk of the drive.  The last 20 minutes in particular were a NIGHTMARE because we were stuck behind a couple of slowpokes on a 2-lane road and I couldn't get around them.

(There was literally stuff EVERYWHERE.  Part of the reason I didn't want to have to stop any more times was because it was seriously an obstacle course to get everyone out of the car and not upset the delicate balance of precariously perched STUFF that was stashed throughout the car.)

Scott was waiting with the garage door open to rush Alex into the house and to the bathroom as soon as we got there, and I'm sure we made quite the first impression on the neighborhood as I came barrelling down the street and into the garage while all the other kids were screaming and laughing at Alex and trying to get all their stuff out of the way so that he wouldn't pee on it on the way out of the car.  We were all a little concerned that his bladder wouldn't be able to hold up any longer, but he proved us wrong and made it inside without an accident!  Hahaha.

It was an exhausting day, but it was so worth it to all be together again!

Our moving truck ended up getting there the very next day (Sunday), and while I took the kids to church, Scott stayed back to direct traffic as the movers started hauling stuff in.  They were finished unloading by about 5 in the evening and then the real fun began.  Hahaha.  NOT.  I don't know what it is about unpacking, but it causes me to have such paralysis/laziness.  We've gone from having our old house be in perfect order and organization for the last few months as we've had it for sale, to our new house being the complete opposite as we've been trying to figure out where to put everything and what we should do.

Grace and Sophie were the most excited and motivated to unpack their stuff and get their room set up the way they wanted it, and by the end of Monday, they were ready to show off their handiwork! Ethan wasn't too far behind, but the Tweedles + Isaac were slow to get started.  {They needed a LOT of help in getting their act together.}  It doesn't help that they're the youngest three (and that there are THREE of them in that bedroom), but I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that once we get them their new beds and organize all of the toys into the BONUS room, they'll be able to keep it marginally tidied up on their own.

The Tweedlearium for now.  I've ordered two Full-sized beds to take the place of the Twins.

The bonus room has been an awesome addition to our lives thus far, and surpassing even that, is the front porch swing.  I'm not even kidding when I say that swinging on that swing is my new favorite part of life.  ;)  It's such a simple thing, but it sure sparks joy.  And I'm not the only one who feels that way.  I've seen Ethan and Grace escaping out there over the last few days as well, and Isaac just LOVES to sing and swing with me.  It's pretty much the funnest, if I do say so myself.

(Actually, I'm all about that front porch life.)

I managed to swing Isaac to sleep the other day while doing our daily Sing-and-Swing.  He really needed that nap, so I'm glad I've got this trick up my sleeve for future boycotts.  ;)

The only real hold up to becoming fully moved in and organized around these parts is that we're going to have to replace all the carpet upstairs.  We were hopeful that we'd be able to get away with just re-carpeting the bonus room (because that's the MOST dog-smelling room -- and when I say it smells like dog, I mean it smells like DOG), but there are still faint whiffs of it in the bedrooms as well, so we're just going to go ahead and do all of them.  Piggy-backing on that big project is one that I'm going to undertake on my own (for now) -- PAINTING!  Yay!!!!  Hahahaha.  I know I'm crazy, but I just love colors and paint, and I'm dying to change the trim throughout the house because it's driving me nuts.  In addition to the trim (which NEEDS to be WHITE and not cream/almost-yellow), Ethan, Grace and Sophie will be going "Gray Owl" by Benjamin Moore in their bedrooms, and I'm turning the office into my library/study and the walls are going "Sea Serpent" by Sherwin Williams and I'm so excited.  {I'm in love with this color and I don't care who knows it!}

{Pictures never do colors their true justice.  Just as an FYI.}

To close, everything has been GREAT so far (minus a few tropical storms from certain children, if you know what I mean) and I'm just so glad that we're all under one roof again -- and that school is over (HALLELUJAH) so that I don't have to wake up so early anymore -- that it negates anything else that might be aggravating or frustrating about our current chaotic condition.  ;)  Stay tuned for more house stuff and some end-of-school-year reflections...

Adieu to You and You and You

Tomorrow is the day.  We roll out whenever we have woken up enough to be ready to go -- and after we do one final sweep through of the house to make sure it's all cleaned up and ready for the next owners.  It has been one crazy, whirlwind week!  There's no way we would have been able to make it to the end with out countless helping hands and kind friends.  ðŸ’•

The ball started rolling on Wednesday, when everything was boxed up, and then on Thursday, another crew came to load the truck.  Today was the last day of school -- and while the kids were all out of the house for the last time, I was able to get everything cleaned up and out before we embark on our next big adventure tomorrow morning.

Seriously, though.  I am SO incredibly grateful for friends who have made dinner for us this week
(since our house it essentially out of commission), and for all the willing helpers who have taken Isaac off my hands so that I can get the stuff done that I need to, and for the friends who came and helped me clean today while the kids were at school (and out of the way).  :)

Moving is always SO hard, but I'm so glad for the almost 5 years we have lived here and all the learning and growing we've done.  We have met so many amazing people and made such wonderful friends.

Some of the stuff we're going to have to try and pack in the car with us.

For our last night here, the kids voted on having a campout in the empty house.  Hahaha.  Grace was the main spearheading force behind it, but the the younger ones were quick to jump on board.  Jane's request was that we all camp out together in the same room, and 4 out of 6 children were down with the idea.   Ethan and Grace prefer to spend their last night in their OWN rooms, but I don't think anyone minds.  ;)

Alex and Jane were the first to conk out.  They must have been pretty wiped out.

Meanwhile, Dumplin' Buns never even took a nap today and was STILL awake at 10 o'clock -- and requesting a quesadilla and Peter Rabbit on the iPad.  Hahahaha.  I'd say he's living a pretty good life.

Cute little lambs all tuckered out.

The set up for the "camp out."

I'll have plenty more to catch up on once we're settled in our new place (I'm looking at you, last day of school) so stay tuned.  But for now -- so long, farewell!

My Cup Runneth Over -- A Mother's Day Tale

Even though I'm literally so tired right now, I feel like I could pass out, I can't let Mother's Day go by without a grateful mention.  For a day that has caused massive feelings of failure and frustration in the past, I'm happy to observe that my feelings have mellowed in recent years.  Having zero expectations from my kids not only lets THEM off the hook, but it also lets ME off the hook, too, for not being a perfect mother.  If that makes sense.

Nonetheless, this weekend in particular contained far more highs than lows, and I'd be super remiss if I didn't express my gratitude for friends and family who helped to make it great.  The weekend started out on Friday with Grace having a surprise sleepover going away party thrown by her fellow beehives; Paradise Ice opening for the season; and a good friend "borrowing" Ethan, Sophie, and Jane  for the evening in what turned out to be an amazing Mother's Day surprise for me.  It was seriously such a sweet service in the midst of this crazy last week before our move!

Paradise!

Linsey had Sophie and Jane help put together a lasagna for our Sunday dinner and Ethan iced and decorated a cake.  To top everything off, they brought home fresh flowers and presents that she helped them put together for my big day.  :)

Saturday continued the fun with a farewell Girl's Night Out for ME, and when Sunday morning rolled around, I was awoken not with breakfast in bed, but a bunch of homemade cards from the Tweedles along with a "video" they had filmed on the iPad featuring the three younger kids answering questions about me.  It ended with the most hilarious declaration of "Happy Mother's Day!" from Isaac that I've ever heard.  Hahahaha.  It was so funny -- all day long he would randomly shout it out with his arms outspread and a huge smile on his face.  It was pretty much the cutest thing ever.

The kids were antsy for me to open my gifts before church, so I obliged and was delighted by the thoughtfulness of the gifts that were scavenged by Sophie, Jane, and Alex at Walgreens on Friday afternoon when I took them to do their shopping.  (They made sure that I didn't look in the basket to see what they had gotten when I paid for everything at the checkout.  Hahahaha.)  Ethan went with a last minute Amazon order on Saturday, that somehow managed to be delivered the same day, and of course, school teachers and primary teachers pulled through with adorable Mother's Day cards as well.

Linsey helped the kids print out a "World's Best Mom" award.  :)
Sophie got me peanut butter m&ms; Jane and Alex got me a LOT of different candy options along with a crossword puzzle book from Walgreens; and Ethan ordered me another New York Times Sunday Crossword Puzzles book, since I just can't get enough.  Hahaha.  ;)

Alex painted this picture for me at school and I love it SO much because I know how much he hates art.  So the fact that he put together something this lovely for me really speaks volumes.  Haha.

On the back of the painting was a little questionnaire that cracked me up.

All About Mom
Let me tell you about my mom.
My mom is 37 years old.
She likes to do crossword puzzles.
The best thing she cooks is cookies.
Her favorite food is Gumbo.
Her favorite thing to do to relax is do crossword puzzles.
We like to go places together.
She is really good at cooking.
As you can see, my mom is special because she loves me.

 Jane's card from Primary...

Dear Mom, You are the Best Mom in the whole entire world!  I love you!  I appreciate You!  Love, Jane

Sophie's card from Primary... (You're my Hero! Super J Lady to the rescue!)

Dear Mother,  You are the best!  you find ways to make everything fun!  You make food that I can ACTUALLY have, even though I may not like it.  Thank You!  Love, Sophie

Once we were home from church, we enjoyed our delicious dinner and dessert and then I fell asleep on the couch for a delicious nap while some of the kids joined me in watching "Coco."  The only damper on the whole Mother's Day weekend is that because Isaac never took a nap yesterday, he ended up waking up in the middle of the night, and I got to spend 3 AM to 5 AM with him in his room early this morning, while he went through varying phases of freaking out, almost falling asleep, and trying to get me to read him some books.  He finally fell asleep a little after 5, and I climbed back into my bed at 5:15 -- just around the time that Ethan was getting up for seminary.  So I got a mini nap from 5:15-5:40, and then after seeing Ethan off, I got Grace up and ready for school, then fell back asleep on the couch from 6:15-7 when it was time to get the REST of the kids ready for school.  So, to say that today has been exhausting would be an understatement.  Especially since that little stinker did not nap again today.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed it won't cause him to wake up in the middle of tonight, but just in case it does, I'm going to head on up to bed right now.  ;)

The Best Crew a mother could ask for!  ;)

Jacob + Kaitlin

I just love love!  And Jacob and Kaitlin were just the brightest, beaming-est, most precious-est little Love Birds around.  :)  Their wedding was beautiful and the reception was so fun.  My kids had a total blast! And Isaac is a dancing MACHINE.  Hahahahaha.

For the big day, they chose to get married in the Payson Utah Temple and it was absolutely gorgeous!  The day was lovely and the company was even lovelier.  ;) An added bonus was that the picture taking after the ceremony was relatively painless and the kids were mostly cooperative!  With all of us there and dressed all nice and pretty, we obviously had to snap a few family photos as well.  Hahaha.

 Our little Family

 Emily's Family

Sarah's Family

Laura's Family

The whole wedding party!

Once pictures were done, we moved the party to a church building about 15 minutes away for a Swig catered reception with lots of music and dancing.  It was a hit.  I had no idea we were such a dance party kind of family!  Hahahahaha.  I can't state enough how much fun we all had! It was so fun, in fact, that since we've been back, Grace has already started a Pinterest board for all her wedding ideas for the future.  Hahahahaha.

And that's a wrap!  I love, love, love being with family!
