38 is Great!

After spending a few days now as a 38-year-old, I can authoritatively tell you that it doesn't feel all that different from being 37.  Hahahaha.  That being said, I can also tell you that the secret to having an amazing birthday is to have zero expectations!  Because when you're not expecting anything, then every little thing is the best.

Highlights of my special day include: Scott helping me to get the kids all off to school on Wednesday morning; lunch with a friend (who indulged me in my ridiculous Sonic Ice Cream Slush obsession for dessert); my visiting teacher watching Isaac, so I could enjoy said lunch at my leisure; flowers from my old running buddy; a set of DELICIOUS cupcakes from a new friend; texts and Facebook messages all day long that warmed my heart and tickled my fancy; phone calls and gifts from family (including my new favorite-est crossword puzzle book of all time); and a night off from cooking dinner after Grace suggested we go out to eat since I hate cooking so much.  Hahaha.  Whew!  Recapping it all makes me realize just how much I was spoiled this year!

Thank you, Emily!  This book of New York Times Sunday Crossword Puzzles is low key giving me life right now.

To close, I'll have to leave you with my favorite part of the evening.  While eating dinner at Panera with the kids, I made them go around the table and divulge what their favorite thing about me was -- you know, because Words of Affirmation are my love language.  Hahaha.  Their replies cracked me up and I can't think of a better way to document turning 38.  ;)

ME:  Kids, what's your favorite thing about me?

JANE (without missing a beat):  You're my best friend.

ETHAN (who I'm pretty sure was humoring me -- and doing an amazing job, FYI):  Snuggle Chats.

SOPHIE:  That you always come to me for fashion advice.

GRACE:  How we all know you hate making dinner but you do it anyway.

ALEX:  The same as what Jane said.

ME (to Isaac):  What's your favorite thing about mom?  That we're besties?

ISAAC (with a stank face stare down):  No!

(Poor Scott was MIA because he was helping out with a move in the ward.)

Hahahahaha.  And that's a wrap.  Happy Birthday to me!  :)
