Program Interruption

It's true -- I'm going to have to interrupt the current recap program I've got going on to give a brief birthday shout out to our favorite man of the house!  And just how did we celebrate the big 4-0 for this guy?  With style, obviously.  Hahaha.  J/K.  NOT.  Scott had a work dinner tonight that he had to attend, so we'll just have to postpone our family celebration until the weekend.  Instead, today was just another regular old day in paradise.

Noteworthy points include...

  • Isaac -- aka the Cooler King -- can now climb out of his crib.  So that's awesome.  Especially when it happens at 4 in the morning and I get to spend an hour and a half with him trying to get him to calm down and go back to sleep.  You know your day is starting out on the right foot when you've already watched an episode of Backyardigans before 5 AM.
  • Not to be left out, Thumper had an escape of his own this morning which I discovered when I went to wake Grace up and saw in horror that the bunny's cage had fallen off the desk at some point in the night and was crashed in the middle of the floor.  Thankfully, the bunny was okay and my screech of alarm woke Grace right up and she was able to set things aright and clean up the mess.
  • Screen time has turned Alex into a raging, vein-popping monster.  I've been trying to cut out all interactive screen devices for him this week, but this morning I caved and let him play on the iPad for an hour while I tried to work out in the basement.  The results of that brief episode were crazy.  He was legit Hulk Smash for a good 15 minutes afterward.
  • And then, of course, there's all the shuttling around of kids to and from practices, appointments, and other miscellaneous stuff that took up the rest of my day.  The highlight of the whole day, however, was meeting up at a park with some friends after dropping Ethan and Grace off at a pool party for their youth activity tonight.  The evening was delightful and the park was lovely and it was an all around peaceful ending to an otherwise crazy kind of day.  We lingered as long as possible to kill time before Scott would be home and succeeded in getting back at almost the exact same time as the birthday boy!
And there you have it!  A super exciting day in the life.  Hahaha.  It's a good thing Scott is so easy-to-please.  Because it looks like he'll be celebrating his birthday with Alex this weekend in a joint extravaganza.  Not to worry, though, because we have an ACTUAL birthday bash scheduled for September with a friend who is also turning 40 next month.  AND, he got his BIG present a little bit early when his Ford Focus died this weekend and he treated himself to a "new" car on Monday for a birthday gift to himself.  Nothing says mid-life crisis like a 2015 Honda Civic.  Right??  Hahahahha.  Just kidding.  Scott's too level-headed to experience any such thing.  I'm just glad that my best boy is now driving an air-conditioned car.  He deserves to treat himself!  ;)
