Today we took a page out of Ferris Bueller's playbook. Minus the ball game and trip to the art museum. Hahaha. Papi came in town late last night, and since today is the only full day he'll be here, I let the younger kids skip school in order to spend some time with him. And we couldn't have picked a more BEAUTIFUL day to play hooky. The sun was shining and we hit a high of 75! We decided the best way to spend our day was with a picnic at the park, followed by a jaunt to the candy store, and then a stop for some ice cream. Everyone (except for maybe the Squeaker) had a lovely time!
Sophie was so excited about the prospect of a picnic and was super helpful in getting everything packed and ready to go.
For our picnic, we feasted on leftover sloppy joes and cut up veggies. I let the kids pack a couple of extras as well, and they were happy as clams.
{It was a little too chilly in the shade for the girls, so they took off for another picnic table in the sun.}
Candy!
Ice Cream!
Ethan and Grace both had running after school, but once they were home, we squeezed in an early supper so that the fun could continue with a movie outing on Papi. After dinner was over, Scott went with my dad to take Grace, Sophie, Jane, and Alex to see "Zootopia" at the movie theater. Ethan decided it wasn't quite his type of movie {
hahaha} and stayed home with me and the schnookems. The poor little lamb is a total fluid boy today -- watery, goopy eyes combined with a runny, snotty nose and lots of drool to boot. In short, he's a bit of a mess. Especially since he keeps rubbing at his face because his eczema is flaring up and he's just itchy. Last night was a particularly bad night for sleep, but I'm hoping he'll get better soon and we'll ALL be happier campers. :)

fun FILLED day. A Kid's dream.
Taking an unexpected day off is the best! I think Sarah did the same thing while he was with them.
That sounds awesome. Did the kids like the movie? We want to take June for her birthday, but I'm wondering how well your youngest sat through it.
the kids really liked it! alex and jane both sat through it and enjoyed it. :)
Thanks, Jessica!
Does your dad not do casual clothes? My dad couldn't. He was so awkward in jeans. Must be a lawyer thing.
