This evening's activity involved face paint and tears. A perfect way to end the day, right? Hahahaha. I should have known it would cause problems when I bought it, but apparently I'm a glutton for punishment. So, here is how it all went down...
The kids got home from school and quickly discovered the face paint. Grace convinced me to sell it to her so that she could have sole proprietorship. Probably not my smartest move. After trying {unsuccessfully} all afternoon to make Sophie do her chores while I got dinner started I realized right around the time Scott got home that all the kids {minus Alex} had disappeared outside and were setting up shop for business.
The first clue that things would not end well was when Sophie complained to me that Ethan and Grace were charging her 5 dollars for their enterprise. Then -- when I saw that the promised "dog" face was NOT what Grace was painting -- I figured I should probably intervene.
"You better not put this on the blog, mom!" said Sophie as I snapped away.
Dog or Ghoul. You be the judge.
America's Next Top Model in the making.
Caught mid-"woof," Jane's face painting is the closest to ACTUALLY looking like a dog. Grace was really proud of this effort.
Saved from a similar fate. Alex was very grateful.
After a mini-meltdown from Sophie when she looked in the mirror and saw Grace's handiwork, we finally convinced Grace to sit her down and give her what she wanted -- a butterfly. Unfortunately, we were ready to eat dinner when she was done and I didn't feel like getting the camera out again to document the finished product. Suffice it to say that a lot of face paint was used and that a lot of baby oil was needed to get it all off. But they were both happy at the end. And sometimes that's all that really matters.
{Although for the record, once the fun-tivities were over for the night, Grace begged me to please buy the paint back from her so that she could have her 5 dollars for the book fair tomorrow. My decision is pending.}

I feel a little the same way about mud...there's a lot of mud here! It's always the question of "is the cleanup worth the diversion?"
Looks like everyone had fun! And I love that Grace is trying to sell the paint back. Hahaha
