She's Here!

WARNING: Picture-heavy post!

Here are the basics:

Jane Felicity
1:23 PM
8 lbs. 4 oz.
20 1/2 inches long

(Look how much hair she has! And how dark it is!)

The short story:

Although I went in to the hospital to be induced this morning, I really think she probably would have come on her own either today or tomorrow anyway. Shortly after I finished posting last night, I started getting some pretty good contractions and thought that perhaps we wouldn't make it till this morning, but then a little after midnight they fizzled out and I was able to get some sleep.

We checked in this morning at 8 and they started me on the Pitocin by 9. I was already at 4 cm dilated and 75% effaced and kind of contracting a little on my own, so they didn't really need to use a whole lot of the Pit. By 11:30 I was ready for my epidural, and shortly after it was placed my water broke on its own -- which has never happened before and felt really weird. I got stuck at 9 cm for about an hour and a half during which time my epidural of course didn't really work to block out the pain, and by the time I was ready to push I felt like I'd rather be dead than in so much pain. Since I have such awesome luck with epidurals, OF COURSE the anesthesiologist was tied up in an emergency C-section and couldn't come in to up my dosage level, and OF COURSE neither the doctor nor the nurse was authorized to do it themselves, so the end result was a nightmare possibly worse than Ethan's. The only positive thing I can say about it is that at least it was over (relatively) quickly. According to the official record, I was in labor for 4 1/2 hours and pushed for an additional 15 minutes. Jane is my biggest baby weighing in a good 4 ounces more than Ethan did, and that extra heft has left me a-hurting with a second degree laceration which I can already tell will take a LONG time to recover from. TMI, I'm sure, so I'll put an end to this birth story right now.

The following are the fave photos from the day. Of course, we're super biased, but we think she's just cute as a button!

Before leaving for the hospital.

Getting all set up -- this is quite possibly the ugliest hospital gown I've ever had to wear.

The cute little peanut after she had her bath.

Proud mother and babe.

The kids come to meet their new sister.

And we try to get a better family shot.

Happy -- yet VERY tired -- new parents.

The Girlie Bugs.

Big Brother Bonding...

And then moving on to more entertaining things.

Happy Big Sister.

And newest Big Sister.

It was love at first sight, really.

Jane and her star-gazing amazing eyes looking at Dad.

Well, that's all folks. Jane has been a super-alert baby so far, and we still can't get over how much more hair she has than any of the others. It is by far the thickest and the darkest of all the kids!

A few more parting shots:

Congratulations on Jane Felicity! She is absolutely gorgeous just like your other 3 children. I would dare say that you look pretty amazing yourself in your after labor pics. I've only had a c-section so I can't begin to understand what you just went through but thank goodness it's worth it, right?

awww i'm in love with her! she is so precious!! my first thought was that she looks like you jess! so weird how it is such an unfamiliar face, yet in a way, familiar, huh? she almost looks like eleanor but that could just be the pudgy little face and the fact that that is the most recent newborn i've spent much time with.

sorry i have a lot of comments, but this is such an exciting post! woop woop!

1. i noticed your stash of magazines on your end table :) that's a good idea, i'll have to remember that one next time around.

Amen to what Freddie said. As soon as I saw the picture of her after her bath my first thought was that she looked like Ethan. And that hair! I definitely did NOT think you and Scott would have a newborn with such dark hair. She is darling! Congrats on a beautiful Jane and good luck w/recovery. You are a superstar!

PS-Your hair is DARLING! May I say, you might even be rivaling Jane in the precious department with that 'do. I love it!

Sarah, that's just what I thought when I looked at Jane in that pic. I think she definitely will have her own look. She looks totally different with the cap on.

Jessica, I actually didn't tear up until I saw the first one with you holding her. All I could see was your face...your BEAUTIFUL face! What a spititual feeling to look at one of my babies holding their new baby. For me, your eyes are the real story in all of these pictures.

ok, I'll pick up the violin now. The other kids are adorable. And Scott, you are amazing! You are the rock of it all.

Keep the pictures coming. Her facial features will change just about everyday so even if you can't post, please email me some pics.

love to you all

So pretty! I love the dark hair, the rolls on her arms, and the fact she reminds me of Ethan! Oh, she's just so cute!

Congratulations! You look great by the way! The feeling of water breaking is crazy, I agree! I love your family shots! I'm wish we had one but we forgot the camera in our rush to make it to the hospital, because yep, someone was NOT packed yet!

Give her a little snuggle for me. Here's to a fast healing and recovery! Congrats again!

Wow, she's so beautiful! I can't believe all that dark hair! I'm so sorry the birth wasn't the greatest experience, and I totally feel your pain about 2nd degree tears. I REALLY hope it heals up soon for you so you can just enjoy that sweet little girl. Congrats!

kim said...

Congratulations! She's gorgeous and I especially love the second pic of Sophie holding her--what a happy big sister!

Hope you heal quickly. Make sure they send you home with vicodin or something--I learned the hard way that those tears can actually get worse a couple days later. The bad epidural was what led me to go natural with number 2--its hard to deal with when you aren't prepared for it. But at least the whole thing was fast--and you do look great :)

Congratulations. I am so sorry to hear about your pain- that is just awful- you should only have to have stuff like that happen with your first. She is beautiful though!

Congrats on little Jane Felicity! She is so cute - with so much hair! (My Ellie is jealous) I agree with everyone else about the tearing - been there, done that! Hope the healing goes well. 4 weeks later I can walk! (okay, it didn't take quite that long) :) And, be grateful that you had ANY gown in the hospital - what would I give for one here in the UK?! haha
