Time to keep powering on through the rest of the summer of 2024!! Without further adieu, here are the bullet points from last July...
- Mom Dates
Towards the end of last summer, I came up with the idea to do a "mom date" with each of the kids before school started back up in the fall. The kid got to choose the activity, and the mom footed the bill. Hahaha. It was actually really fun to see what they all came up with and I think we all enjoyed the quality time we got to spend together, even if I wouldn't necessarily have chosen all of the venues myself. Lol. The month of July saw me and Isaac gallivanting at a Family Fun Park for some putt putt (both of us) and go kart riding (Isaac only), while Alex and I embarked on a "dinner date" to Cane's followed by some shaved ice for dessert.
It was SO hot the day we were there. Outside summer day dates in the South are a no for me dawg. Lol.
Such a cutie pie
Another cutie pie
I was surprised he didn't go for something more exciting for our date, but hey -- I can appreciate the simple pleasures in life. And I could really go for a shaved ice right now. Lol.
- Garden/Backyard
Time for another quick peak at the garden, where my biggest excitement of the summer was getting a bird bath for the backyard! Have I reached peek middle-aged-ness or what??? Hahahaha. Most of these flowers pictured here are from seeds that I planted in the spring/early summer. I have to say -- I am never not in awe that something so intricate and beautiful (and in the case of the random sunflower that cropped up in the back garden, so BIG) can come from something as small and simple as a seed!
I don't know where this sunflower came from -- maybe some birdseed got scattered? -- but I kind of loved my little nature-gifted surprise. {Even though (truth be told), I think sunflowers are kind of ugly.} I will say that by the end of the summer, however, they had really grown on me and as a result, I even purposely planted some this year. Hahaha.
I was LOVING these peacock orchids that I grew from some bulbs that a friend of mine had gifted me. They're just so lovely and elegant looking!
The tithonia I planted (or Mexican sunflower) was a sleeper hit for me in my test garden! I love the bold, vibrant color.
An update on the fence side test garden...
...and the house side test garden.
A closeup of the Queen Sophia variety marigold that I kind of fell in love with as well.
Some Shirley poppies
California poppies
And my porch pot geraniums. (I'm kind of obsessed with the color of these!)
- Kid Happenings
To close, I'll leave you with the very miniscule amount of pictures I took to represent the miscellaneous kid happenings of July of 2024! The following is all I've got...
Isaac posing with a "gold medal" he made in OT with a fruit by the foot and a golden oreo. Lol.
