At the beginning of the month, we celebrated Sophie's 16th birthday! And thanks to the requests/suggestions she presented to me via a Google slideshow a week or two earlier, I was able to make this birthday the Sweet Sixteen of her dreams! Hahahaha. The main bullet points of her outline included: eating dinner with the fam at Shogun on her birthday day, going to the skating rink with her friends for her party, and having a heart-shaped lemon Oreo "cake" -- with "1" and "6" number candles in place of 16 individual ones for her to blow out. (Although, the joke was on her because she didn't end up having to blow out ANYthing seeing as to how I totally forgot to bring along a lighter to the skating rink for the candles. LOL.)
Lemon Oreo "Cake" -- crumbled up lemon Oreos mixed rice krispie treat style with melted marshmallows, then topped with a "glaze" of the melted creme from the center of the Oreos. Not my personal fave, but Sophie really likes it, so that is what Sophie got!
(Taken before Alex decided it was too cold to skate while wearing shorts.)

I wanted to throw in a few little fun surprises for her actual birthday day as well, so I put my balloon arch making skills to use once again and topped it off with a lovely bouquet of flowers. While her birthday fell on a Tuesday, at her request we held the ice skating party on the following Saturday with our whole fam plus a handful of friends from church/school. I will emphatically maintain my stance that ice skating is more fun in theory than actuality, but everyone else seemed to enjoy themselves just fine -- especially Isaac, who had no fear whatsoever and was barreling around the rink on his own by the end of our 2 hour time block. Granted the "skating" he was doing was closer to running on the ice than actual gliding, but he stayed surprisingly upright for most of the time. (Meanwhile, Alex probably would have enjoyed himself more if he had gotten the memo that shorts were not the best ice rink attire, but I guess you live and learn. Hahaha.) After presents were opened, Happy Birthday was sung, and "cake" was eaten, the fun continued as the girls from the party followed us home for pizza and to hang out until it was time to leave for a church dance later that evening. All in all, I think it was a successful day! Hahaha.

I still had to capture the requisite photo, even if the candle-blowing was pretend. LOL.
This is one of Isaac's suave poses. In case you can't tell, he's smoothly winking at the camera. Hahahahaha.
I should probably go into business as a ballon arch maker -- I'm practically a professional at this point. Hahaha. The beauty of this particular balloon arrangement is that we've been able to keep it up all month long, doubling as Valentine decorations as well as decorations for MY birthday in just a few days time. It's just the gift that keeps on giving. Hahaha.
I'm low key obsessed with that hot pink/fuchsia guara spilling out on the left there, and I'd like to go on record with saying that carnations are an underrated/under-appreciated flower.
And finally, with Sophie being my words of affirmation girl, I obviously have to close out the post with some fun facts and sweet words for my little sweet sixteener...

- She's a sucker for a tootsie roll pop (see what I did there? hahahahaha.)
